Do You Pretend or Do You Live?
Do You Pretend or Do You Live?
By: Dr. Alan Rosenthal
Unfortunately, it sometimes seems we are the masters of our own self decline. We know that a low fat diet, exercise, stress reduction, regular Chiropractic adjustments and adequate rest help us be at our best. Yet, we frequently sabotage ourselves by not following through with the effort that is required. Why do we choose not to do those things that will help us be at an optimum level in all areas of our life?
Creating Good Habits
A lot of this sabotage has to do with bad habits. Replacing a bad habit with a good one simply takes a deliberate effort to change and a bit of work. To create a good habit, we must follow through for 21 days, after which, a habit becomes much easier to form.
We need to take ownership of our health and accept the responsibility of improving it. While an enthusiastic friend, a knowledgeable coach and a supportive Chiropractor go a long way in making your changes attainable, only you can make it happen on a consistent basis.
Journey to Wellness
Remember that it isn’t about the destination but about the journey. We should make habit changes to allow us to have a higher quality of life, not a lower one. Find things you enjoy doing. If you try something and don’t like it, try something else. Find a Chiropractor you really connect with and who will help coach you on your path to wellness.
Be nice to yourself. Do regular workouts, have proper nutrition, and have regular Chiropractic adjustments. However, if one of these things are missed don’t beat yourself up. Acknowledge to yourself that what you did or didn’t do was detrimental to your wellness goals and move forward. Each day is always brand new and represents a clean slate.
Stop Pretending, Start Living
Some people choose to pretend that eating a high fat diet won’t affect our health. They may pretend that going months without regular exercise won’t decrease their fitness and health. They may even pretend that a dysfunctional spine will affect how their nervous system can run their whole body properly. But these bad habits will come back to them later with negative effects.
So stop pretending. Be aware of your life and make steps toward a higher level of health and wellness.
